PROCEEDS totalling £3,130 from the 40th anniversary Bridport Carnival were handed out after a bumper year.

Nearly 70 guests attended the ceremony with presentations including prize money to winning entries in the procession, donations to good causes and cheques to beneficiaries.

Carnival chairman Shaun Fox thanked the community for their support and stressed how much work was involved in organising the carnival.

He also paid tribute to outgoing treasurer and carnival stalwart Simon Hosking and thanked him for all of his help over the years.

Mr Fox added: “The generosity of Bridport people goes a long way. My thanks also go to the carnival committee for their support.”

Procession entry winners included the First Bridport Scout Group, the Cousins Carnival Club, Just Family and Friends, Nigel Phillips, The Lyric Theatre and Groves Nursery.

The winning shop in the Misplaced Article competition was Potters Tackle Shop at West Bay.

The beneficiaries chosen were the Bridport Disabled Carers Group, the First Bridport Scout Group, the Bridport Young Persons Action Trust, West Bay WI, the Dorset ME Support Group, Bridport and West Dorset Music Club and the Bridport Under 12s Bridport2Seattle appeal.
