Line up for a full house of fun

BINGO: what's your number? BINGO: what's your number?

EYES down – the next event of the Bridport Carnival build-up is lined up for Wednesday, August 3.

The Carnival Bingo night is on the cards for the Conservative Club in North Street at 7.30pm.

It is the first of a programme of events in the build up to the big carnival weekend on August 20 and 21.

It's open to all the family - adults and children.

Carnival committee chairman Shaun Fox said: “The bingo is always good fun.

“We want as many people as possible to come along and get the carnival off to a great start.

“It is open to everyone so people can turn up on the night.”

Shaun added: “All the other preparations for the carnival are going well. We’re looking forward to a great 40th anniversary carnival.”

The celebrations this year mark the 40 years of consecutive carnivals from 1971 to 2011 although there were carnivals in the years beforehand. Special car stickers and entry forms for the procession are now out.

They are available from the Bridport News office in East Street, AG Down in South Street and the tourist information centre.

Carnival Princess Jade Coombs has already been crowned Miss Bridport and will take pride of place in the events this year.

The bingo on August 3 is followed by a quiz night on Wednesday, August 10 at the Conservative Club.

Teams are advised to get there at 7.30pm for a 8pm start. There will also be a raffle on the night.

One of the traditional favourites is Carnival Darts on Thursday, August 18, sponsored by Long’s Fish and Chips.

It is being held at the Conservative Club in North Street. Three-a-side men’s and ladies’ teams can enter. The cost is £6 per team. Players need to sign on at 7.30pm.

They can enter on the night or contact Reg Pitcher on 01308 458192 beforehand.

The annual carnival car boot sale is being held on the eve of carnival day.

Askers Meadow will be transformed into a treasure hunter’s paradise at 6pm on the Friday, August 19.

For sellers, it’s £5 per car and £6 per van. Arrival is from 5.30pm. Entry is free.

The procession is on Saturday, August 20 and the torchlight procession is on Sunday August 21. Visit the new website at Bridportcarnival.co.uk
